It combines the expertise of a graphic designer, image consultant and marketing coach to give a brand a makeover and plan a brand building strategy for 12 months. The most exciting part of it (I think) is the focus on managing your personal brand. Very often you get this feeling that people just don’t "get" you and it might be something to do with the brand you’re projecting as opposed to the real you.

I’ve recently been asked to give some tips on creating a good banner ad. Not being a graphic designer, I did not leap forward with an answer. However, it’s a really good question. Many of us just go ahead and create something in Photoshop without really thinking about what makes a banner effective as a marketing tool. We tend to base our decision on whether it looks good or not, rather than whether it achieves our goals. You should continually monitor the effectiveness of your banner ads and go back to the drawing board if they’re not working for you. If you’re in the market for a new banner ad have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/online/banner-advertising/articles/10_tips_for_creating_an_effective_banner_ad_campaign.mspx and http://www.siteprocentral.com/lessons/0082.html. They’ve got some really useful tips that you might not have thought of.

Maybe it’s the change of seasons, but everybody seems to be having these creative surges and developing new products or embarking on new directions. It’s incredibly exciting to watch my clients take their businesses to new heights. Some of it seems to be rubbing off because I’m looking to add a heap of extra services to The Marketing Coach. In the next few weeks there will be a new Advisary panel that can help me answer some of the more curly questions I sometimes get asked. There will also be a new brand-building package and market research package. Life’s a little busy at the moment, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

May is shaping up to be truly mad and there’s still nearly 2 weeks to go, The Marketing Coach is taking part in the Businessmums Network May Madness promotion and we’re offering a 50% discount on our Plan A package, which means clients mentioning the May Madness promotion will get two hourly coaching sessions and unlimited email support for a month at $99 instead of $198.

There are lots of other exciting businesses taking part in the challenge and they’re all listed on http://www.savetimeonline.com.au/seasonal/maymadness.html.

At the end of May we’re also looking at launching some cost-effective ways for mum-businesses to conduct market research without breaking the bank. I’m pretty excited about this one. I speak to so many mums that just give up on market research after they’ve received a quote from a market research company. Even though I’m forever preaching about how important market research is, I know some of them just can’t afford it. Hopefully this new service will see a lot more mums implementing market research programs.

It seems like just as I get the current newsletter out the door, it’s time to start writing the next one. I don’t actually mind the writing of the newsletters, it’s the technical side of getting the thing out the door that gives me a headache. Anyway, I spent last night trawling through the forums and my client notes to see what marketing topics people were having issues with. I think I’ve got some interesting ones lined up for May - I have to after the massive influx of new subscribers . There’ll be a case study on product design; a tip on whether or not to follow-up a media release; a networking technique and the use of blogging as a marketing tool. Hopefully there’ll be something for everyone in that list.

I think it’s a case of the builder whose house is always falling down - I’ve been speaking to clients about blogs for ages now, but finally The Marketing Coach has one of it’s own.

Because the service I provide is so personal - you have to vaguely like your coach to be able to work with her - I think my clients deserve an opportunity to get to know a bit more about the person and the business at the other end of the phone. I listen to the dreams and plans of so many exciting businesses, so here are my dreams and plans for The Marketing Coach. I look forward to sharing with you.
